Hailing from Brisbane but newly established in Melbourne, Briztronix released their
debut EP of downtempo instrumental hip-hop in 2002. It got them constant airplay on triple j's Hip Hop Show plus a guersney as one of the broadcaster's Next Crop ... and there was plenty of airplay across community radio.
Briztronix' 2005 release The Album was featured by Fenella Kernabone on triple j's Sound Lab and was toured nationally supporting the likes of Curse ov Dialect, Macromantics, TZU, The Herd and Spoonbill.
Now Briztronix is proud to independently release their sophomore LP, Structures of
Canyons, winner of the 2007 Q SONG AWARD in the Sony/BMG Hip-Hop category.
Structures of Canyons continues the collaboration of lifelong friends and band members Shazam and DJ Bacon as they produce and record a 16-track album of rich beatscapes strongly suggestive of the golden era of early Ninja Tune and Mo Wax releases.
Call it Cut Copy meets DJ Shadow or RJD2 fusing with The Herd. Call it illbient, downtempo or electro ... it's got beats, it's instrumental, it's dark.
BRIZTRONIX HISTORY
Briztronix began as a 3 piece band in suburban Brisbane in early 2000. Members DJ Bacon, Shazam and Thom Mcghie were old high school friends and began an experimental hip hop crew together. Briztronix released their debut EP in 2002 and received heaps of independent and national radio support, especially on Nicole Foote's Hip Hop Show on triple j. Briztronix were also featured by triple j in 2002 in Oz Music Month and gigged frequently around Australia.
After the EP release the two members continued to produce music and became successful artists in their own right, with Shazam beginning Brisbane's acclaimed new culture festival Straight Out Of Brisbane (SOOB). Ben went on to produce 4 SOOB festivals from 2002-2006, started a downtempo/trip-hop outfit called “Vineland” and wrote and produced his first play, The Pacific Solution.
DJ Bacon continued DJing regularly and successfully around the East coast - highlights including supports for Grandmaster Flash, Ugly Duckling and supports for locals such as Hilltop Hoods, Dexter and more. Bacon moved to Melbourne in 2004, where he plays various DJ residencies and live performances as a turntablist and club DJ. DJ Bacon represented QLD at the Aust DMC competition in 2001, bowing out in the team battle to the Dirty Duo.
The Briztronix debut LP entitled "The Album" was released in mid 2005 with only 200 copies pressed. It became a classic underground, Indy, limited release. Briztronix toured nationally in support of the release, playing alongside like-minded Australian acts such as Curse ov Dialect, New Pollutants, Music Vs Physics, Macromantics, Liones and Fortnight Productions. The Briztronix LP was released in its entirety for MP3 download (with the artwork) free, receiving thousands of hits and becoming one of the first Australian bands to do this.
